Several review sites have negative feelings about the interface (at least for a PC game), but I actually thought it was OK. Once you learn what the icons mean, it's probably as- or more-efficient than a more traditional interface. Plus, it scales beautifully with the resolution, which is something that couldn't be said for Morrowind (or many other games.) The one part of the interface that does grate on me though is the alchemy screen. Why does it take so many clicks to add/remove reagents? This is especially annoying considering the amount of trial-and-error it takes to create a potion. Other than that, I think the interface is actually pretty good.
My biggest gripe about the game for PC is with the interface. It was quite obviously designed primarily for the 360, as menus are overly tedious and borderline annoying to use on the PC.
Having been able to play a friend's 360 version of the game though, I do have to agree that the menu works quite well with the 360 controller. I was also somewhat disappointed with overall sound from the PC version. Playing on the 360 with a decent surround system I was at least able to hear the occasional effect from a rear speaker and the frequent boom from the sub.
On my PC's 5.1 system (which is amazing in many other games) I hear quite literally nothing from my center/rear channels and rarely anything from the subwoofer. I'm willing to accept that I may have something configured incorrectly; but after scouring the game's options, that's not looking to be likely. Great reviews. The UI is bearable once you figure out that F1 - F4 brings up the first level of each icon you see at the bottom bar on the screen, but i would much prefer a more intuitive method of equipping your character, something like the body picture used in Diablo and many other RPGs would have been nicer than trying to guess of leather pants go to the same location as iron greaves. A rather realistic aspect of Oblivion is that the weight constraints mean no packrat mentality. Echowell Bri 10w Manual Transfer. You're not going to be able to cart around enough weapons and armour for a small army.
Perhaps it's because I have no interest in the XBox in any form or maybe it's because I view them both as largely dedicated PCs playing watered-down ports of PC games and little else, but I still see this as a PC game. The reason at the forefront of my mind is that the series started on the PC. I played Arena when it was released and bought Daggerfall the day it came out after eagerly anticipating it for months. It seems like the XBox is making companies that would otherwise make a game for the PC start modifying the games bit by bit until it can be released on the XBox or occasionally other consoles as well. While I'd like to support the idea of more people being able to play great games I think that it might be a better idea to construct games to suit the platform they're going to be released on rather than mucking about with a game or series until you can make it work on something else just to increase sales.
